The Indigenous Prosperity Foundation (IPF) is pleased to share an important leadership update as Executive Director Michelle Okere prepares to begin maternity leave in June 2025.
In alignment with IPF’s values of respect, care, and continuity, this transition has been thoughtfully planned in close collaboration with our board, team, and partners. Michelle has been a driving force behind IPF’s growth and vision, and as she enters this next chapter, we honour her leadership and the example she sets for inclusive, values-driven governance.
To ensure continued momentum and organizational stability, IPF will appoint Relay Tangie as Acting Executive Director. A founding leader of the organization, Relay has previously served as Managing Director and, most recently, Vice President of Development & Finance. With over six years of leadership in Indigenous program design, economic development, and systems change — and more than two decades of experience as a finance professional — she brings the experience and insight needed to guide IPF through this transition.
“Relay has been central to IPF’s development since day one,” said Executive Director Michelle Okere. “Her leadership is grounded in community, guided by strategy, and aligned with our mission. I have full confidence in her and the team as I take this time to focus on family.”
“It’s an honour to serve in this capacity while continuing to advance our shared vision,” said Relay Tangie. “IPF is built on strong relationships and a deep commitment to Indigenous prosperity. I am proud to support the organization and community during this time.”
All IPF programs, partnerships, and strategic initiatives will continue without disruption. This transition reflects deliberate planning and strong internal leadership capacity, ensuring the organization remains aligned with its priorities and accountable to the communities it serves.
We believe strong organizations support their people through all of life’s seasons. By preparing for this moment with intention and care, we’re demonstrating that leadership is shared, planning matters, and community remains at the centre of everything we do.
As Michelle steps into this next chapter, we once again thank her for her leadership and wish her strength, balance, and joy in the months ahead.
