Building Confidence Through MoneySmarts Facilitation in Saskatoon
The Indigenous Prosperity Foundation recently delivered two MoneySmarts facilitator training sessions in Saskatoon. The first brought together participants from the Gabriel Dumont Institute and the Clarence Campeau Development Fund for a shared day of learning, discussion, and hands-on experience with the MoneySmarts program.
A separate one-on-one session was also held with a consultant interested in becoming a MoneySmarts facilitator. The session created space for more focused learning, questions, and discussion about how the program could be delivered within the organization and community she supports through her consulting work.
Both sessions introduced participants to the MoneySmarts financial literacy program, its materials, facilitation approach, and learning activities. Participants played the MoneySmarts game, worked through practical scenarios, discussed different approaches to program delivery, and asked questions about how the resources could be used within the organizations and communities they support.
Learning through play is an important part of the MoneySmarts approach. The game creates an engaging and welcoming environment where participants can strengthen their understanding of financial concepts, practise decision-making, and take part in conversations that may otherwise feel complex or intimidating.

Facilitator training helps both organizations and individuals become more familiar and confident with MoneySmarts before delivering the program to participants. By experiencing the activities firsthand, prospective facilitators can better understand how the game works, anticipate questions, and consider how the program can be adapted to meet the needs of the people and communities they serve.
Offering both group and one-on-one training created opportunities for different kinds of learning. The group session encouraged shared discussion and relationship-building among organizational representatives, while the individual session provided space for more focused questions and conversation. Together, the sessions demonstrated how MoneySmarts training can be adapted to support different facilitators, organizations, and community settings.
