Beyond the Balance Sheet

Bradley Mianscum | Founder, Mianscum Advisory & Bookkeeping Services

· Launchpad Founder Stories,Updates,Stories,Collaboration and Empowerment,Launchpad

Beyond the balance sheet are the people, families,

and dreams every business is working to protect.

For Bradley Mianscum, bookkeeping has never been just about numbers. It is about helping entrepreneurs build businesses that can support their families, strengthen their communities, and create lasting prosperity. Some businesses begin with a business plan. Bradley Mianscum’s began with a promise to his son.

As a father, Bradley wanted to build a career that would give him the freedom and flexibility to be present while creating a strong foundation for their future. That desire eventually led him to launch Mianscum Advisory & Bookkeeping Services, where he now works alongside entrepreneurs, helping them build stronger businesses through bookkeeping, financial guidance, and practical support.

Before starting his own business, Bradley worked as the Corporate Controller for a band-owned corporation. The experience gave him a deep understanding of financial management at scale, but it also revealed something more. He saw firsthand how many local entrepreneurs needed trusted, hands-on financial support as they worked to grow and protect their businesses.

Small business owners are a major driving force within local Indigenous economies. Bradley believed his skills could make the greatest impact by working directly alongside them. Today, that is exactly what he does.

Building a Business That Serves Others

Starting his own business meant stepping into a completely different role. Bradley already understood finance. Entrepreneurship taught him how important it is to adapt.

“In business, there are so many curveballs thrown your way,” Bradley shared. “Learning how to navigate around those obstacles on the fly has completely shaped how I operate and grow my practice.”

There were new systems to build, changing priorities to manage, and unexpected challenges to work through. Rather than viewing those moments as signs that something had gone wrong, Bradley began to understand that adaptability is part of building any business.

Each challenge taught him something new about his practice, his clients, and the kind of entrepreneur he wanted to become. That experience has also shaped the way he supports others. Bradley understands that business owners do not always need abstract financial advice. Sometimes they need someone who can meet them where they are, help them understand what is happening, and find a practical way forward.

A Vision Worth Presenting

As part of Launchpad, Bradley had the opportunity to participate in the Indigenous Launchpad Showcase at the NACCA Indigenous Prosperity Forum in May. The Showcase invited entrepreneurs to present their businesses before a live audience and share the ideas, purpose, and potential behind what they were building. For Bradley, preparing for the Showcase meant doing something that did not come naturally to him.

He worked hard to shape his presentation, clarify his message, and find the right words to explain why Mianscum Advisory & Bookkeeping Services mattered. He was not simply presenting a bookkeeping company. He was sharing a vision for helping Indigenous entrepreneurs better understand their finances, protect what they had built, and create stronger futures for their families.

When the day arrived, Bradley stepped onto the stage in front of hundreds of people.

“I’m most proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and onto the stage at the Indigenous Prosperity Forum. Gathering the courage to speak about my vision in front of hundreds of people reinforced that this work matters.”

That courage—and the preparation behind it—paid off. Bradley was named the winner of the Indigenous Launchpad Showcase. The recognition meant more than delivering a strong presentation. It affirmed the need Bradley had identified among local entrepreneurs and the value of the business he had worked so carefully to build.

For someone accustomed to working behind the scenes with financial statements and business operations, standing onstage and confidently sharing his own vision marked an important shift. He was no longer only helping other businesses move forward. He was learning to stand behind his own.

More Than Numbers

Bradley wants entrepreneurs to understand that bookkeeping is not simply an administrative task or something they are required to complete at the end of the month. Financial information tells the story of a business. It can show an entrepreneur where the business is growing, where challenges may be emerging, and what decisions need to be made next.

“Financial records aren’t just boring numbers you are forced to write down,” Bradley shared. “Understanding your financial data is a powerful tool. It protects your business, gives you clarity, and fuels sustainable long-term growth.”

That belief shapes the way Bradley works with his clients. He wants entrepreneurs to feel informed and confident rather than overwhelmed by their finances. By helping them understand what their numbers are telling them, Bradley provides business owners with the knowledge they need to plan ahead, respond to challenges, and protect what they have worked so hard to build.

For Bradley, the balance sheet is never only about numbers. It represents someone’s livelihood, their family, and the future they are working to create.

Looking Ahead

With the systems and software integrations for Mianscum Advisory & Bookkeeping Services now in place, Bradley is preparing to welcome his next group of clients and begin delivering more support directly to entrepreneurs. He is also planning bookkeeping workshops in the coming months, creating another opportunity for business owners to strengthen their financial knowledge and feel more confident using their numbers.

The same motivation that inspired Bradley to begin this journey continues to guide him today. That started as a desire to build a stronger future for his son has grown into a business that helps other entrepreneurs protect their livelihoods, support their families, and build stronger futures of their own.

Bradley is also grateful for the support he received throughout his Launchpad journey.

“I would love to express my sincere gratitude to the team behind the Indigenous Prosperity Foundation,” he shared. “The time, effort, and support they put into us as Indigenous entrepreneurs, as well as the incredible doors they have opened for me, has been invaluable.”
